Default Jailbroken iPhone 3GS RAM issue.

    Hello everyone.

    Here's the problem :

Since I have my iPhone jailbroken with Greenpois0n RC5 on 4.2.1, I have a lot of memory (RAM not storage) issue. It acts everytime like that :
First when I boot up my memory is about 135mb (I have it shown on my status bar with SBSettings) and that's normal but after 5 minutes of use or so, my free memory decrease a lot and is between 20mb to 5mb and I have never more than 5 apps opened. And then when I have only 20mb or lower free memory my iPhone get very slow (who is normal) and apps crash everytime and when I open an app who uses a lot of memory (like whatsapp) my springboard crashes and get in safe mode.

That's very, very annoying so if someone has a solution for this issue it would be really appreciated!

    Thanks!
    BP

Even my iPhone 4 gets down below 50MB free with 5 or 6 apps open. I am constantly closing down apps I don't need and hitting the Free Memory button to keep things efficient. If you have a ton of mobile substrate apps installed that can be eating away at your RAM.

3gs has only 256 RAM, with 2 or 3 apps, memory goes down to 20 or 30 mb is pretty normal.

    Indeed.

SpringBoard and other daemons eat up 95-110 MiB by themselves (and it's necessary for those apps to run at all times).

Any app that's in the background but doing something actively (e.g., playing audio or listening on a SIP port) will be an active app with active threads and active memory allocation that will not get dumped easily by the kernel (and they usually require a significant memory allocation).

To see how damn quick RAM can disappear, run ps -el on a root shell...

This is my iPhone 4. It's nuts... EDIT: "RSS" or the ninth(?) column of numbers is the size of the process in RAM in terms of groups of 4096 bits (I think, may be bytes). Springboard, for example, munches 17.7 MB by its lonesome (or 141.95 MB if it's bytes). Eats up 512MiB pretty quickly.
