I really need some help. I am not sure why I did what I did but I went into Cydia and saw 3 upgrades pending. I installed it without looking and I got an error message about not being able to fetch some data. Next it asked me to reboot the phone. Now it appears the phone is stuck on the apple logo. Looks like it is in in a loop cause periodically I can see the spinning symbol.
I have the iphone 4 since last summer with the software jailbreak. I never upgraded.
I am not familiar with the terms DFU or SSH (Been searching for a fix). Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to fix this?
Your gonna need to do a restore..... then re jailbreak! Do you need or in future require an unlock to change your carrier? If not then update to the latest FW! You will need to enter DFU mode which is a restore mode within the phone that doesn't rely on software within the phone! To enter DFU mode power the phone off... press and hold the power and home buttons for 10 seconds release the power button ensuring you keep hold of the home button for around 20 seconds! Connect the phone and open iTunes.... if all went well ITunes will tell you it's found a phone and only give you an option to restore! Once complete iTunes will replace your content via a backup! Re jailbreak with GreenPois0n and re install everything you had! If you need an unlock then get back..... different process!!!
Thanks for the speedy reply. I am going to do this as soon as I get off work. Do you know if I synced up my last night. Will the restore process give me all my apps as of last night?
I still have an old version of I-tunes. So you are saying to upgrade to the latest firmware?
So in order:
1. Enter DFU mode
2. Restore phone via I-tunes
3. Upgrade to latest firmware
4. Use Green Pois0n to do a hardware jailbreak ?
That's exactly what I'm saying..... as long as you never need to unlock your phone to a different carrier as upgrading your FW will also update your baseband and that currently means no unlock....
You will also need to update your iTunes to the latest version.... if you did a backup last night then all your app store apps will be back right after..
Any Cydia apps will need to be re installed manually, any themes on winterboard etc etc....
Good luck and let me know how you get on!!
Ps the restore via iTunes will automatically update you to the latest FW.....

Just an update I was able to get my frozen apple logo phone working by following these steps:
Instructions for saving your SHSH
1. Download and run TinyUmbrella and make sure your iDevice is detected.
2. Check "Advanced Options."
3. Under "Device / Version," select the firmware version you want to Save (You can only restore to versions that have SHSH saved).
4. Click on "Save my SHSH."
5. Repeat to save other firmware hashes if you wish.
6. Now, click on "Display SHSHs." It should listed all hashes you have saved on your computer for all your iDevices.
Instructions for restoring:
(Make sure you have saved your SHSH blob locally using method above. If not, repeat the method above for the firmware you wish to restore to.)
1. Backup iDevice in iTunes and then close iTunes.
2. Open TinyUmbrella and make sure you dont get any errors on startup or else you will need to make sure that port 80 is open and that your host file is not set to Read-Only.
2. Click on Start "TSS server,"
3. Download firmware you wish to restore to from here: iPhone/iPodTouch
4. Open Itunes and use the Shift/Option + Restore method to choose the firmware file you wish to restore to (Upgrade button cannot be used)
5. After your firmware is restored you might get a 1004 error. Not to worry, simply click "Kick Device out of Recovery" if you get it.
6. Restore Settings from Backup in iTunes and sync.
