Hi all, I'm kinda new to the apple world, so please bear with me.
I have my friend's iPhone 3G which she accidentally updated from 3.1.2 to 4.2.
Although, I've somehow managed to downgrade it to 3.1.2, the baseband has been updated/changed to 05.15.04. The sim was working fine earlier on the previous baseband.
I used blackra1n for the jailbreak, and used it to install cydia. Now (even after 3 restores) when i start cydia, it shows some error downloading packages, and hangs at 'reloading' and the next time try running it, it crashes after the 'loading' screen.
I've tried using ClearCydiaListCache, but it's giving errors.
I've read another way to make Cydia alright is by using SSH. But for that again, i need cydia to d/l OpenSSH, ultrasn0w, etc.
I've tried iNdependence to try installing SSH on iPhone using a mac, but that again is giving errors, seems to be an old program.
Can ultrasn0w do the job for my baseband, or is it a lost cause?
Shift+restore to 3.1.3 and use redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak, when using redsn0w 0.9.4 be sure to browse to 3.1.2 ipsw Try downloading fuzzyband from cydia, keep in mind fuzzyband only works on certain iPhone 3G. If fuzzyband does not work for her phone and she needs to unlock then there is no other option except to install iPad baseband. But try fuzzyband first. copies of redsn0w 0.9.4 and a 3.1.2 ipsw can be found at iPhone Download Blog

You cannot downgrade the baseband on an iPhone 3G, period.*
*UNLESS your phone was made on or before the 30th week of 2008. Then, IF AND ONLY IF you have a baseband bootloader version of 5.8, you may downgrade your baseband version via FuzzyBand in Cydia (or with apt-get and dpkg, package identifier com.peacefulinsanity.fuzzyband). You can check baseband bootloader version either via TinyUmbrella or via the Fuzzyband program itself.
