I am struggling. I have today received an iphone 3g on 2.2.1/5h11. I need to jailbreak. If it was on 4.0 or later i would be ok but im struggling. Can i update but preserve baseband so i can unlock? BTW im using windows no mac available so any mac only options are a no go.
Use Redsn0w 0.9.6RC8 , browse to stock 4.2.1 firmwware, check only DFU box.
Once DFU is done, run itunes : shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 created by Snowbreeze 2.2 or Pwnage tools 4.2 to preserve you current unlockable baseband to be unlocked with Ultrasn0w.
yeah updated i tunes just made my own custom ipsw 3g 4.2.1 using snowbreeze. Tried that but no joy but ive just had a thought. I did an restore to 2.2.1 yesterday. This is now asking me for a sim for activation which at present i dont have as i need an o2 sim. Would that have anything to do with it? The phone is not activated when i plug it into itunes?
Right!!! I now have it jailbroken and running 4.2.1 baseband version 02.30.03. is this unlockable?
Right guys i now have it jailbroken on 4.2.1 baseband 5.13.04 (had to run fuzzyband and upgrade to 05.13.04) ran ultrasnow looking good.
Insert sim get notification of new voicemail but hey no signal?
WTF any ideas?

Nah ive got 3gs all singing and dancing working fine the iphone 4 was my sisters she wanted it unlocking she went out and bought it cheap. Obviously it was cheap because it cant be unlocked. And the 3g someone has just brought it to me asking me to unlock it and jailbreak it. The phone hadnt been used since April 2009 (thought this was a bit odd) so i messed about got in all unlocked and jailbroken only to find out its been blocked. Shame i had to go through all that to find it out though. It recognises the network and places network name in top left corner notification of voicemail will come through but if you try to make a call or receive a call its a no go. Oh well spares and repairs anyone?
