iPhone 3g jailbroken upgrade
I have a jailbroken iPhone 3g running 3.1.3, with firmware 04.26.08. I would like to upgrade to 4.2.1 if possible. My phone is locked and I am fine with that. I've done some googling without any success. I'm resonably technically savy, but I can't seem to figure this one out. FYI I keep opening Cydia, and it says "Loading Data", then shuts itself off. Currently I am using my new iPhone 4, so my 3g does not have an active SIM card in it. I could temporarily put my active SIM card in it if needed, but basically I want to use my 3g as iTouch.
Thanks so much!
Cliff

Try restoring the iPhone 3G to 3.1.3 and set up as a new phone. Jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.4 to see if that remedies the problem. If you really want to go to 4.2.1 then just update and use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to jailbreak.

got the same problem as the darkwind , but have a small issue ,
a) wanna use my phone , ( its at&t locked and unlocked with ultrasn0w)
b) dont wanna loose GPS functionability if i did the ipad BB update method ... or atleast dont want to take that risk ... unless its solved.
so where do i do from 3.1.3 ( 4.26.08 ) ? can i restore it to same version ?

If you just need to restore to 3.1.3, just shift+restore to stock 3.1.3 and jb with redsn0w 0.9.4 (have a 3.1.2 ipsw to use with redsn0w, but restore to 3.1.3).
The baseband will be upgraded to the one that comes with 3.1.3, however that is unlockable so it will be fine. Just don't upgrade to 4.2.1.

^Not quite, With an iPhone 3G you can shift+restore to any firmware you want. Shsh only matters on a iPhone 3GS and 4.

Not yet, I have a friend who is giving me a copy of OSX this weekend. So I'll be setting it up over the weekend.
So I'm half right. But I helped jb a friends old 3G that was on 4.2.1 and had never been jb before, once it was jb, I clicked "make my life easier" and it showed all iOS4 shsh saved.Last edited by iPittsburgh; 02-23-2011 at 09:57 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
