Help: Iphone 3g jailbreaking

I am not the jailbreaking iphone type of person but I need to jailbreak my iPhone 3g. It is on version 4.1 (8B117), and baseband is 05.14.02.

I know that unlocking it require me to upgrade baseband to 06.15.XX. And what I heard was that it is required for jailbreaking too. I don't want to upgrade my baseband to 06.15.XX. So is there is way for me to jailbreak my iPhone without upgrading baseband to 06.15.XX?

Note: I just want to jailbreak the iPhone and not unlock it.

Unlocking is what makes it so you can use the iphone on other carriers. Jailbreaking is what allows you to do what you want with your device.

To unlock, you much jailbreak, but yo jailbreak, you don't need to unlock.

You can upgrade to 4.2.1 and jailbreak with the application called "greenpois0n"

So would that mean I don't need to upgrade Baseband? Also I heard 4.2.1 with 3g is slow or something like that. If I do this, it is possible to go back to 4.1?

4.2.1 is faster than 4.1 on a 3g I believe. No, you don't need to upgrade the baseband to the ipad's (6.15.0).

Here is my two cent, there is no way to unlock without update to ipad's 06.15.00. As for jailbreak you have option to either stay in 4.1 or upgrade to 4.2.1, I would think stay at 4.1 is better just because dev team been working on this 05.14.02 bb for sometime and unlock may happen, just for that reason I stay at 4.1 and jailbreak it with snowbreeze 2.2 and keep your bb 05.14.02

On a 3G 3.1.3 is probably the fastest, but if you really wanna be on 4.2.1, that's fine. Just a tip, disable multitasking and wallpaper and you'll see a great difference.

It's quite simple since you're not looking to unlock. Open iTunes and hit upgrade. That'll put your phone on 4.2.1. Then run redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and browse to the 4.2.1 ipsw (download redsn0w @ the dev team's blog and the ipsw here in the downloads section on MMi). Then select Cydia and follow the on-screen instructions. After it finishes you should have access to your springboard and Cydia

Hi Annie, I'd got another project. Friend of mine want me to help him jb and ulock his 3GS iph iOS 3.1 bb 05.11.07 this phone never been jb so possible no shsh saved. Mes and x98car suggest to build custom fw with snowbreeze 2.2 restore cfw to retain my bb and unlock with ultrasnow. I'll sleep on it and star tomorrow. Wish me luck I'll need it

Follow annie's post above, I must ask u one more time r u sure unlock is not important?? If answer is yes not important then update to 4.2.1 and jb with snowbreeze, or greenposionrc6.1 or the latest

Also I must mention once base band is updated can't go back

Yeah. Well I want to unlock as well but atm unlocking is risky with the 06.15.XX. So I just want to jailbreak it until I can unlock it.

So what would the steps be for jailbreaking it at verison 4.1 and maintaining baseband?

I don't want to be blunt but if you're wanting to follow a YouTube guide rather than directly taking my suggestion, go for it.

Google "Redsn0w 4.1 guide" and you'll find plenty of tutorials for illustrated processes.

doing this i will be maintain my baseband at 05.14 rite? And is it untethered or tethered jailbreak? Also for the video I posted is it for 4.1 and can I unlock later on?

Did someone say Green poison to JB iphone 3g?!?... I don't think so.. it doesn't work for 3g.. better stick with Snowbreeze or Redsnow only.. I haven't really been not up to date with redsnow lately but the last one I tired didnt work either.. Snowbreeze is your best bet.. The 3g believe it or not is becoming dinosaur in the iphone community with not much support for jb-ing needs lately it seems...

I didn't see anybody mention greenpois0n.

There isn't a point in preserving that baseband, it already is not unlockable. If the devs were to release an unlock it'd likely be for the newest bb.

Like I said, Google for a tutorial. There are plenty out there. Just search "redsn0w tutorial for 4.2.1" or something.
