    Default 1013 error question

I got the 1013 error while restoring an iPhone 4 to 4.2.1, I had the tethered redsn0w jailbreak on it at 4.2.1, which worked great no issues. I was able to get past the 1013 error by reading post about editing my host files. My question is this, by deleting the info added to have iTunes go to sauriks server, it goes to apples server, what happens when apple stops signing 4.2.1? I did try tiny umbrella before deleting added host file info , still got the 1013 error. I am new to all this and just trying to understand things a little better. Thanks

When Apple stops signing 4.2.1 if you try and restore to 4.2.1 with your SHSH you will always get the 1013 error. Unless you use a custom firmware with no baseband in it.

That 1013 error occurs because the baseband on iPhone 4 has its own set of SHSH that Apple needs to sign in order to fully restore. Without those SHSH the baseband part of the restore will fail and give that error.

So this is where pwnage tool comes in? Does it build firmware without baseband in it ? Would you get the same 1013 error on a 3GS or just the 4?

yup, pwnage tool can make them without baseband. You will only get that 1013 one on iPhone 4. A iPhone 3G or 3GS can get a 1015 error, but only if the baseband installed on it is higher than the baseband that the firmware wants to put on it.
