PLS HELP. I'm Jailbreaking

Hi Guys,

I have had my 3GS for over an year now - and I have finally decided to jailbreak. The only reason why I waited so long was because my Dad thinks I'm gonna mess up my phone... and its expensive. (I also want to jailbreak my mom's iPhone 4.)

So... I want to jailbreak. Couple of quick Q's for you:

- Will I still be able to use "Find my phone" (i.e. MobileMe) on iPhone 4 if I jailbreak?

- Which is the best jailbreaking software to use? There are so many out there, Greenpoison, Redsnow, Pwnage... Which is the BEST software to use? or does it not matter?

- Will I still be able to use iTunes?

- Any other risks? I realise I can restore to factory settings, but I don't want to lose my SMSes (which we can't transfer right? Hate Apple for that). What are the chances that I may have to 'retore'? I am kinda freaked out that may happen.

- My dad will kill me if something happens to my phone. He thinks I'm too dumb and cannot use gadgets at all. I want to be able to jailbreak and show him I CAN.

Yes.

It depends on which version of iOS you have on your 3GS, If you're on 4.2.1 then use greenpois0n, if you're on 4.0-4.1 you can use limera1n

Yes.

I backed up my iPhone to iTunes, restored, and then restored from backup and had all of my sms messages and contacts and things like that.

Jaibreaking is not that difficult especially if you follow the steps properly.

- I can get all sorts of free apps, right? like Angry Birds? I don't have my own credit card, so I can't buy apps without having to ask parents. So that is a MAJOR reason for me jailbreaking.

Angry birds is from the appstore. When jailbreaking you will be insalling cydia, which allows the installation of third party apps, some do cost money and others dont.

Not having a credit card is no reason to pirate. Go buy an iTunes gift card with cash. Pirating is frowned upon here at MMI.

I think he was asking if there were free apps from cydia like there are free apps from the appstore. But anyone looking to pirate applications either from cydia or the appstore will get no help here.

Here's a tutorial for jailbreaking 4.2.1 just in case you need it:

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak
1. Download the jailbreak app at GreenPois0n
2. Follow the directions
3. If it doesn't work (Has errors), unplug your iDevice and plug it back in, and try it again
4. If successful, there will be a apple with green eyes on it
5. On the second page, there will be a app called "Loader"
6. Open it, install Cydia
7. Delete the Loader via it's settings menu
8. Jailbroken iOS 4.2 device!
(Working on 8GB 3GS (Newer one))

You can create an iTunes account without a credit card to download the free apps. This is what I thought he was referring to.

Ok - I understand the 'free downloading' part now - its piracy! I didn't know that. Anyway - I bought Angry Birds.

Oh!!! and I was able to jailbreak on my own using online tutorials! It wasn't difficult at all, and my phone didn't get 'bricked' or anything!

However - I find Cydia very confusing. There are a lot of apps there... wish there was a 'top 25' or like in the App store.

One question: Is it possible to get viruses on my phone thru 3rd party apps on Cydia? Do I have to be careful when downloading Cydia apps because of the virus concerns?

Also - do you guys have any good links/videos about using Cydia? And which would be the 'must have' apps on Cydia? How do I unlock the features on my phone?

PS: I also want to know whats the best way to move my iTunes from one computer to another - without having to use a USB.

If I want multiple computers to have the same iTunes account (so I can sync my apps n music on any computer) - can I transfer my account online? or sync multiple iTunes accounts together? I think having to copy-paste my songs on each comp - (so each iTunes is the same) would be very tedious.
