So after I saved it, rebooted and respringed the device, this happened

You can do it with the apps like "MyStrings" available in Cydia. Much easier, and you can do it on the go too. I think it costs $1.50. Definitely worth the buck-and-a-half.

But if you were so inclined, I'm sure you could find something for free. Just don't ask me how.

I was just implying that there are ways to get paid apps for free. But I don't condone pirating software (and it is strictly against MMi policy to discuss here).

As to your initial issue, I'm not sure why your custom "slide to unlock" text isn't displaying properly. But I'll let you know if I find anything.
