Default 13 going on 14...hours of trying to restore.

issue resolved: Guys! o my god guys!

i called apple and we fixed my phone! lol go figure...the problem?

    zone alarm firewall

wouldn't allow me to restore, uninstalled and now i can restore FINE.

    thanks for the help guys!

    former issue:

    iPhone 4, 4.2.1+ hashed

    latest itunes

    W7 64 bit

As the title says, I've been trying to update to ios 4.2.1 on an iphone 4. Yup, simple enough. At first i tried to preserver the baseband, but after 4 hours of TU spitting out errors 37\1xxx and not being able to kick the device out (greenp0sion didn't work either), i moved to try and stock restore it.

I got rid of the gs.apple line in my hosts file and tried to restore again, error 1xxx and TU wouldn't kick. Tried again, error 37. tried again, error 37. tried again, error 1xxx. tried again, error 37.

What am i doing wrong..? I have been at this ALL day and i have no idea what to do anymore.

Alright now when trying to restore it gets stuck at the 'o' in 'restoring iphone software'...and now i wait.

See my response in your other post, I think it should work. Even if you edit your hosts file, but then start up TU again, upon exit it will change hosts file again to contain gs.apple by default.

Ah i saw that (if you wouldn't mind, could we use this post? it has the most recent things etc etc etc and im not trying to preserve BB anymore).

any rate, TU has the box UNchecked and so i should be able to a restore on at least one of my computers, but no. still get error 1013 and TU cant kick it, or it stops at the 'o' in restoring iphone software and just hangs.

    anything else? please? anyone?

After removing the gs.apple did you restart your computer?

Did you try a dfu or recovery mode restore?

yes i have, several times. and my phone no longer goes into recovery mode, just dfu. only time into goes into 'recovery' mode now is after the 1xxx error, otherwise its a black or white screen.

well 1013 is caused by the gs.apple line in hosts file so if its deleted i have no idea why it keeps doing this to you.

It's got to be a simple little thing that's preventing it from restoring properly, just keep at it. I've hit my head against the wall for hours trying to figure stuff out. But then you stumble across some stupid little fix that works perfectly.

Look at it this way-- once you figure this out, you'll be a fearless modder haha.

I would make sure that after you quit TU, double check that the hosts file is clean of gs.apple. And definitely reboot.

Hmm, only other thing i can think of-- were you previously jailbroken on 4.1 (I think). There was a recent jailbreak that loaded an ipad baseband in order to complete the jailbreak.

Go to settings and let us know what the modem firmware is. If your phone was jailbroken in this way before, itunes won't restore properly because it keeps detecting a newer baseband than should be on the iphone.

The iPhone 4 can't accept the iPad baseband. It doesn't work.

If you've got SHSHs saved for 4.1, take it back down to stock 4.1. There, if you get error 101x, you can still exit recovery with TinyUmbrella then proceed to jb as normal.

So you've checked with TinyUmbrella and it says you do not have SHSHs for 4.1?

If you don't want to preserve bb for iPhone 4, unchecked set hosts file to cydia upon exit, close it.
    Now try restoring again

I don't have 4.1 hashed, i can not take it down. i get 10xx errors nearly ever restore, BUT tinyumbrella nor greenp0sion nor redsn0w recognize it to kick it out.

it is unchecked, i've checked it a dozen times and even delete the line from the host file

Weird. My iPhone 4 got stuck in recovery too after upgrade to 4.2.1 but greenpois0n kicked it out for me. Have you tried on a diff comp?
