Hello, so im new to Apple products and decided to try an Iphone. so i bought my sisters old iphone 3g off of her, and went and had it jailbroken and unlocked to T-Mobile at some store in the mall. well it worked fine and i used it well for a week or so, until one day i was on cydia and accidentally started a 75mb file download ( T-mobile edge network has such a slow speed that would have taken days)
right after i clicked start download a text from my friend popped up on the screen and my thumb went naturally to reply. which then took me out of cydia, took me to messaging, took me out of that. went to springboard. and wouldnt let me open any apps from there. so i figured the safest route was to just restart the phone. and when i did it told me to connect to itunes (meaning restore.. >.<) but it wouldnt restore. ( i know that if i had restored it i would lose my jailbreak)
since then ive been trying EVERYTHING to kick my phone out of recovery, or simply restore, or even re-jailbreak the phone.
it was running 4.1 and i didnt save the SHSH because im not the one who jailbroke it. i havnt yet taken it back to the store where i had it jailbroken because im not looking forward to paying 40$ for something that MIGHT work. it just doesnt seem within their power to fix my phone. or even if they can i dont want to pay more money for it.
anyways, my question, is there anyone out here with the same issue? is there anything i can do to kick it out of recovery, restore, re-jailbreak? i really dont mind losing all my data i just want the use of the phone back >.<
He must have installed the iPad baseband so a stock restore will not work. You are going to have to find a custom firmware of 4.2.1 that either has the ipad baseband installed or does not touch the baseband. Once you find one download it to your desktop, then download redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and put it on your desktop, open redsn0w, use the browse option and point to the stock 4.2.1 you have already downloaded, click next, only select "just enter pwned dfu mode for now" click next, plug in iphone to computer and make sure it is completely powered off, click next, followon-screen directions to enter dfu mode, once it has finished close redsn0w, open iTunes, while holding shift press restore you can now browse to the custom firmware you need to download, select it and itunes should restore it for you.
WOW, thanks so much for this little TuT. my only problem is im not sure my phone can be put into DFU mode? ive tried it via redsnow and manually and for some reason it just doesnt work. but ill try this whole process now and ill let you know if it works. =)
The only way youre phone is not able to enter dfu is if either your home or sleep button does not work. When prompted in redsn0w make sure your device is plugged in and powered off, then try to enter dfu mode. Good luck.
hmm, i repaired the screen, and ever since i did that my home button seems to be pressed in a bit more than it should be. ill see if i need to reconnect the button. =)
