When using greenpois0n, when you get to putting into dfu and you are at the part where you just hold the home button, hold it all the way through when you see the codes. Don't let go until the codes are gone.

By locked I mean the plug into iTunes screen. I held the home button the whole time, through all the code, each time I still get the code stopping at the "panic" message. I searches on the web and found a few others with that msg, but no resolutions posted

Once I get the panic msg, it just stays, the only thing I can do is restart the phone, which gives me the plug into tunes screen again.
I tried with GP rc5 also and got the same result
Not sure if it is relevant, but when doing the restore w the stock fw, I got error "the iPhone "iPhone" could nt be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)" and I don't recall seeing error 1604 on your list of errors that I might receive.Last edited by cjmcd9; 02-14-2011 at 08:59 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

The restore didn't go right. shouldn't be seeing a 1600 error on a stock firmware. Have you tried a different USB port? Reboot your comp while your phone is plugged in, before your comp turns back on switch USB ports. Then try the restore again.
1600 can mean various things.

Try running iReb first then restore. If that doesn't work I'd probably recommend trying another computer.

Ok, ireb helped me restore with the correct error msg, then properly (almost) jb w GP. I got the GP logo slashing back and forth along with the apple logo at seemingly the end of the process, but then the screen goes blank and I cannot turn the phone on. The only thing that shows the phone life is by jb'ing again, but that just brings the same result. Thanks for sticking w me!

When using tiny umbrella have you saved your SHSH locally on your computer first?

Yes, I have.
Is there a way to restore my phone to it's previous version and settings? My phone still will not turn on no matter what I do. The only things that give it life are when I try to jailbreak it again, which gets me all the way to the GreenP logo displaying, and then the phone turns off, never to awaken again.
Well, I figured it out after a long long troubleshooting process.
My SHSH was saved at 4.1, so iOS 4.1 was the only firmware that the restore process would let me complete.
In the end, I had to:
a) Run Tiny Umbrella and Shift + Restore through iTunes to downloaded iOS 4.1 (My phone was on iOS 4.0.1, but in a permanent DFU state)
b) Jailbreak with GreenPois0n
c) Use iReb to get phone out of the "plug into iTunes" recovery mode by using the middle tab "Recovery Mode Loop Fixer".
d) Loader, which is supposed to give you Cydia, was blanked out, so I had to then use RedSn0w jailbreak to gain Cydia for my unlock. Do not go through iTunes to use RedSn0w at this stage, just run the application and follow the steps, making sure that you only have the install Cydia box checked.
c) Installed UltraSn0w from Cydia to unlock the phone so I can use with any carrier.Last edited by cjmcd9; 02-16-2011 at 08:36 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
