So a month ago I bought an iPhone 3GS and got it jailbroken and unlocked. Everything worked PERFECTLY. The guy who jailbroke it for me told me not to close it because, as I discovered later, it was a thetered jailbreak. But what the hell, I'm not half bad with computers so downloaded redsn0w on my own and wondered why I had it jailbroken by somebody else on the first place.
Now my problem happened today. I was out of battery, and went to charge and boot it with redsn0w like I did many times during the last month.. but this time it was stuck on the apple logo. Rebooting over and over again. I was unable to reboot it with redsn0w. I then looked for a solution and the only one I found was to restore it with iTunes.
So here's what I did..
1. I tried restoring it with iTunes, with the latest upgrade.
I got an error (1015) saying it could not be restored.
2. I tried to downgrade it by going to DFU mode and select a custom firmware, just in case it had an issue with 4.2.1.. I tried 4.1 and 3.1.3 but I get an other error with older firmwares. I get 3194 and the restoration doesn't even start..
3. I red that using TinyUmbrella you could bypass the error at the end of the restoration by bringing your device out of the restoration mode. Tried it. It reboots the iPhone and goes back to restoration screen.
So.. Yeah. I would GREATLY appreciate your help. I have been messing around with it for the last 4 hours and am planning to keep doing that for the rest of the night until I find an answer.
If anyone of you knows how to fix this.. PLEASE HELP!
You have the newbootrom and you also have the ipad baseband.
There are two ways to do :
You either restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 or you have to find out if you have shsh blob for 4.1, so that you can restore to stock 4.1 firmware.
In Tiny umbrella, without the phone plug in, on the lef side do you see your device name?
I do have the new bootroom, even if according to my serial number I don't. (I know that because when I reboot with iPhone with redsn0w, it tells me I do). As for the iPad baseband, I am not exactly sure of what it means.
Without the iphone plugged in, I do not see it in TinyUmbrella. But when plugged in, I get 324708808. With no information on the firmware, just the ECID showing up.
My iPhone is at the 'plug to iTunes' page. And when I click save SHSH, it doesn't do anything...

You have to google search for a custom firmware of 4.2.1 that does not have ipad baseband.
Run redsn0w 0.9.6RC8, browse to stock 4.2.1, check only the box DFU mode only.
Once DFU is done, Run itunes : shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1.
You only need redsn0w to tether boot again if you are at frozen apple logo.
Update your cydia.
You may need to tehter boot if you needed a reboot.
To get untethered, run GP jailbreak when you are at HomeScreen.
Follow the instructions to put your iphone into dfu mode
Do your GP jailbreak.
Finally in itunes , set up your iphone.

If your friend has a Mac, then follow this guide
to build a custom firmware of 4.2.1 from PT 4.1.3.
Once this is build , you can save it onto a disk and put it into your pc.
Do the above , using redsn0w to put you into dfu mode and restore to this newly build firmware.
Sorry , i can't give you custom firmware now, it is against forum rules.
I tried two firmware that were said to be 'custom' and 'NoBB'. But it doesn't restore completely. Before the process starts, I get the iTunes error 3194...
Please.. I need my phone for work.. I really need a fix. If anybody can help, tell me!
run tiny umbrella , go to advanc and unchecked set hosts file to cydia , close it .
run redsnow to put u into dfu mode and restore thru iTunes to cdw of 4.2.1
error 3194 means it cannot find ur blob , u either let apple verify it or u must point ur host files to cydia or u must have stored it locally and run TSS server
in this case I am setting ur hosts file to applecserver as apple is still signing 4.2.1
Does this make sense to u?
