Do I need to restore first?

Hi folks. Basic question here. Still confused about this-have read/heard different suggestions. Ip4 on 4.2.1 since it came out and bb 03.10.01. Never jb before. Do I need to "restore to factory" in iTunes (meaning I will lose everything till I restore from backup) before I jb with GP or do I just go right ahead and jb?

No need to restore, just go ahead and use greenpois0n to jailbreak.

Reliable Version?

I just updated my ipad to 4.2. Did not do a restore. Ran latest GP for windows. Jailbreak was successful. Cydia Installed. Everything appears to be working.

Next step...my IP4

The current version is very reliable, I've done two iPhone 4's two 3GS' and an iPad on 4.2.1 It works fine.
