Jailbreak iphone 3g with no wireless plan (turn it into an ipod touch)

Hello all,
I am very new to jailbreaking as you can tell. I have an iphone 3g that I do not use anymore and I would like to jailbreak it and just use it over wifi. Should I follow the iphone 3g protocols or the ipod touch protocol? What should i do differently?

Just put a simcard that is not activated into the phone and you can use it on wifi and everythin except make calls on it

In my opinion, I'd just trade the iPhone 3G for an iPod Touch 3G. Or sell it (how much you can get really depends on area, my area sells for about $150-$180) then spend a few extra bucks on the new iPod touch 4g. Well worth the money. But if not, then do what mukhtarh1 said.

I know that I could just use it without the sim card/just on wifi. I want to explore/play with jailbreaking a phone that I do not use anymore. I already have the iphone 4. My only question is if I should do anything different with the 3g jailbreak protocol because I am not planning on using it with a phone plan.

i.Annie where are you located an iPhone 3G goes for 150-180? I just picked up a near flawless 3G for $100.

That's good for you. It's not like that in every area. Mine sold for $200 with a new red housing.

I was just curious what region of the world, Ive heard of 3G's selling for 300-400 in certain countries.

Ohio. I wouldn't be surprised to see higher prices on both ends of the coasts though. Ohio is a pretty cheap area, I would be pleasantly surprised to see an iPhone 3G for $100. That's how much iPhone 2G's sell around here
