How come I seem to be the only person with this baseband? (05.11.07)

Hello. I have a 3GS on 4.0 with the 05.11.07. I am eager to upgrade, but need both the jailbreak and the unlock to function on T-Mobile US.

When I see things about jailbreaking new firmware, it says to hold off if you need the unlock -- presumably because of the baseband problems... but it refers to basebands with higher numbers than my own. I am aware that updating your firmware can update your baseband -- which is bad.

What I don't understand is whether or not my situation -- again 3GS 4.0 05.11.07 -- is beneficial to me, detrimental to me, or neither.

To get to 4.2.1 and be able to unlock.
You need to restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 to preserve your current baseband.
