3GS keeps rebooting to "Connect to iTunes"

Hello,
I have been perfectly satisfied with my jb/ul 3GS on 4.0.1 for several months when it suddenly rebooted to the connect to itunes screen and that I need to restore. No matter how I restart, it always goes to connect to itunes. I tried jailbreaking again with limera1n on windows and it looks like its working (big green raindrop) until I restart and its back to connect to itunes. I've tried tiny umbrella to save SHSH but it just spins and the iphone reboots before anything happens. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or what else I can try? I found out I have an old bootrom if that helps.

Have u tried restoring and what errors are u getting?

I avoided restoring because it would go to 4.2 and I need to be able to unlock. Is 4.2 unlockable now?
I dont get any errors when using Limera1n. It says enjoy jailbroken phone but it isn't.

I tried iREB and did a restore to 4.1 but "iPhone could not be restored error 1002"

I am having the same exact problem. I tried knocking it out of recovery with tinyumbrella, recboot, limerain and nothing is working. I'm using a 3GS, 4.0.1 jailbroken using limerain. All of them seem to knock it out of recovery but once it reboots it goes immediately back to recovery mode before the unlock screen comes up. I have not tried restoring it because I have important files on the phone I need to get off before restoring so hopefully someone here has a solution. Thanks!

use pwnagetool UL edition for 4.2.1 and make an ipsw.

when pwnagetool is done, follow the instructions to get your iphone into PWNed DFU Mode.
then option restore to the custom ipsw in iTunes.

now use redsn0w 9.6b7 to install cydia, then you will meed to power off and boot tethered, again using redsn0w. finally use greenpois0n to untether your jailbreak, then unlock with ultrasn0w as normal.

let me know if this helps, everything can be done on either platform. if you don't have a mac, then just get the custom ipsw from someone, and use redsn0w to get into PWNed DFU mode.

Thanks Theomer. I finally got by connect to itunes and I can get to the home screen. But after booting tethered, using greenpoison fails after entering DFU mode. And when I try to get to cydia, it doesnt work because my wifi isnt working. When I check it, it is grayed out, No Wi-fi. Do you know what could be causing this?

Did you try restoring it to 4.0.1? I'm confused as to why you didn't just restore with the original files. It wouldn't have updated to 4.2.
