I'm new to this and have been thinking of jailbreaking my iphone 3GS. I have att as a carrier and only want to unlock the phone to install themes and software on it.
I am currently on 4.21. I understand there is a teathered jailbreak out for it, and an unteathered JB depending on your bootrom version. I checked last night and I have the older bootrom on my 3GS.
My question is what is the best method to jailbreak given my model and bootrom version? I read the current JB for 4.21 updates your base band and once it is done you cannot get back to the previous one. Is this still the case if I have a 3GS with the older bootrom?
Is there a full blown 4.21 JB being worked on?
If so should I just wait for that to be released? There is nothing critical I need to do on it right now, I just wanted to mess around with it.
It's pretty easy. just download redsnow 0.9.6rc8 and a copy of the 4.2.1 firmware for 3GS
Run redsnow, browse for 4.2.1 firmware
Say no to model question
Select box to install cydia only
Follow directions for entering dfu
let redsnow do its thing
If you are running redsnow on windows vista/7 make sure to run it in windows xp sp2 compatibility mode.
Here's a few I like. I don't theme cause not many theme my category folders and that's the majority of my screens. Do t need to slow it down either.
