Help with a 3GS.
Hi,
I have been handed a 3GS which was previously jailbroken and unlocked. Im afraid i dont know on what firmware or baseband.
Im not sure what happened to the phone but now it is stuck in recovery mode with a picture of a usb cable pointing at itunes logo.
Where do I begin with getting the phone working and unlocked again. I have no idea what firmware or boot room it is on at the moment and i dont know how to check this without getting in the phone. I have tried writing a custom 4.1 ipsw file with snowbreeze but i get the error 3194 in itunes when trying to apply this. I tried modifying the host file without success.
regards
John

You should find out what SHSH you have with tiny umbrella and what bootrom you have with idetector. If tiny umbrella cannot se your phone you will need to find the ecid and manually add it to tiny umbrella.

Without shsh you will be forced to restore to 4.2.1 where the jailbreak is tethered right now.

i have now informed the owner of the phone that it would be best to just restore with iTunes and wait. They agreed so I thought fine, just plug iphone in and click restore. But things are never that simple are they.
Half way through the restore im getting a 1015 error. How come an official restore and update is failing. Im confused.

If he got that error when restoring to 4.2.1 then the iPad baseband was installed on that iPhone. Without SHSH the only way around that is to use a custom 4.2.1 firmware with no baseband update in it made with pwnage tool.
