Default New Iphone 4 with 4.2.1 wanting to jailbreak

My 3gs stopped powering on this morning while watching Netfilx. It just turned itself off and will not power back on. So I had to get a new phone today.

I bought a Iphone 4 and it has the 4.2.1 firmware installed on it.

I've been doing about 3 hours of research and can't find one universal answer on how to jailbreak my phone.

Some say just use Redsnow 9.7 something
    some say use limera1n
    some say use both...

I need some help here, I know that the iphone community is extremely smart, but it seem like no one can give a straight answer.

I'm trying to Jailbreak on OS X.
    Help anyone?

Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 will do it. It will just be tethered.

Yes if you downgrade to 4.1 it will be untethered. But that requires you to have SHSHs. If you don't have SHSHs, you can't downgrade, so you'll be stuck with 4.2.1 and it will stay tethered.

If you want untether at 4.2.1, then you need 4.2b3 blob and a Mac and a developer's account.
