Default Will updating iOS lose old bootrom?

    Hello all,

Quick question, if I update my iOS from 4.1 to 4.2.1, will it also update my bootrom? I have the old bootrom and would like to keep it for an untethered jailbreak. I have a 3gs, bb 05.14.02. Would it be better to keep my phone on 4.1 before updating to bb 6.15 for the jb in order to keep the bootrom?

    Thank you!

You status of bootrom will not change. You already have a non unlockable baseband, if you do not need unlock, do not use ipad BB as you will lose your GPS functionality and you will not be able to restore to any future stock firmware of 4.2.1 or greater.
You will be able to get untethered jailbreak at 4.2.1 as you have the old bootrom.

Thanks iYeow, I don't really want to lose GPS, but since I have bb 05.14.02, I don't see any other options than getting bb 6.15 for unlocking. Am I missing something?

    I got his from i.Annie, here: http://modmyi.com/forums/general/729...breakable.html

"NOTE REGARDING NEW UNLOCK FOR 3G/3GS: be aware that you should not update
the baseband to the iPad baseband unless you absolutely have to (meaning you have the currently NOT unlockable basebands such as 5.14.02 and 5.15.xx). If you can preserve your baseband, by all means use PwnageTool method to preserve the baseband (so long as you find the custom firmware that does NOT include the baseband upgrade). If you are already stuck at those basebands, and you are sure you ready to void any warranty that may be left for your device, then upgrading to 6.15.00 is your only option. Do so at your own risk, there have been reported GPS issues as well as
restoring issues that get you stuck in recovery mode."

If you don't need it desperately, don't do it, you can never downgrade the baseband and you must use custom firmware of 4.2.1 or greater in the future.
If there is no cfw available, then you are stuck at 4.2.1 .

UPDATE: Oops, I just re-read your post. At first I misread "You already have a non unlockable baseband", processing it as the opposite. So, basically my only option for an unlock is using the iPad 6.15.00 BB at this time, correct? Do you happen to know if App Dev, or anyone else, is working on another option for phones with BB 05.14.02 and 05.15.XX? Thanks!

No idea, who knows some genius might come up with an unlock. It is your call, i am here to advise you the pros and cons.

You have 4.1 blob, right. If you are stuck at 4.2.1 and don't have access to cfw, then you can restore to stock 4.1 but not stock 4.2.1 if you use ipad bb

    I suppose I could always go with AT&T. :-(
