I bought an iphone 4 that has been stuck in recovery mode.
Apparently he attempted to restore his phone with a 4.2.1 firmware ipsw file and it failed halfway through so it currently does not have a functioning OS (if thats possible)
- i dont know what OS it originally had
- i obviously dont have any SHSH blobs
Can i assume that I have no choice but to restore a 4.2.1 firmware back onto the unit since I cannot now go backwards with no saved SHSH files?
I tried redsn0w 0.9.6rc8, fed it an original 4.2.1 ispw firmware file and that seemed to work right up until the last reset and then it just went back to the recovery mode icon.
From what i understand the 4.2.1 jailbreak is a 'tethered' one, so i re-ran redsn0w and set it to boot mode but that didnt work either.
Is this going to even be possible ?
When i run tinyumbrella-4.21.05 it finds the device but can offer no details as to what OS or anything.
you need to put the device into dfu mode. dfu mode is recovery mode but it dosent load up iOS.
1. Hold power button for 2 seconds
2. Hold the home and power button for 10 seconds
3. after that release the sleep button and keep holding the home button and wait for itunes to recognize the device in recovery mode and then restore from there. Hope it works
