Tried but maybe failed?? Help??

I had to send my 3gs off for service that was running 4.1 that was jailbroken with limera1n, and they just sent me a different 3gs that came with 4.1 and I thought cool, wont be a problem and just restore from my previous settings and then jailbreak once more...well no go, it made me restore/update to 4.2.1, well ****... looked around trying for a jailbreak and came across redsn0w...did exactly as it said, it went through and started its thing, and I think that it jailbroke it, and cydia installed, but it wont open... well, it will try to open then close immediatly... it ended up making safari do the same thing, which isnt a big deal cuz I run a different browser anyways, but is there something I am missing... Not a huge modder when it comes to my phone and I hear about SHSH which I dont know what that is, but is there anyway I can get my phone back down to 4.0 or if not at least 4.1?? or if not that just can you help me get cydia working on 4.2.1... can anyone help???

Perfectly normal and expected behavior, nothing to panic about.

Run redsn0w again, but this time after selecting the firmware and entering DFU mode, select "Just boot tethered now."

That'll get your Safari and Cydia working and get your jailbreak working in full. Please note you will have to repeat this process every time you reboot your phone or it loses all its battery charge (just turning off the screen is OK).

Also, please note that there is no current (or forseeable) way to get your iPhone back down to anything lower than iOS 4.2.1--the SHSH blobs aren't available, and there's no feasible way you're going to able to get those. To save your SHSH blobs for future use (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED) please download TinyUmbrella and run it with your iPhone connected as soon as possible.
