    Default 4.2.1 Tethered JB

Ok, so I have an iphone 4, and I really want to JB it. It seems like an untethered one is always just around the corner but its been too long. I'm debating whether I should Jailbreak my iphone or wait. if I tether JB it will I be able to untether it once the release is out?. can anyone explain what a tethered jb is?. I never ever lose my battery because I have it always charging somewhere( Laptop, Car). everytime I respring my device do I have to have it connected to a comp?. and finally what is a good JB iso for mac?

    respring is fine.
as long as the device doesn't need to restore..
    for example installing winterboard
    you'll be fine

Tethering.. is a way of making a device Jailbroken but the "hack" only works whilst the device is running.
Something to do with changing codes i think..
so when the device is restarted the code is changed and the jailbreak can no longer run and so you need to REJailbreak.
so respringing is fine because the device does'nt refresh that "code".
Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

Just download the latest redsn0w and only select the install cydia option. Afterwards when ou need to run the tethered option again, just run redsn0w and this time only select "just boot tethered" option.

Ok, so I just downloaded the latest of Redsn0w for mac and when I run it, it says please choose the correct ipsw for you're current firmware.so I am currently downloading the Iphone 4 4.2.1 ipsw, after that do I choose that file, and then choose install Cydia?, also, there isn't a solid untethered JB if if I am not unlocking the phone?, I just want to JB it.

Correct. Just choose that file and then select install cydia then simply follow the onscreen instructions. Keep the computer close by initially because you'll typically have to run the tethered boot a few times at first because of certain packages in Cydia that require a reboot for installation.

You have to run the tethered boot after the initial jailbreak in order for Cydia to run.

Ahh, Thanks a lot. Much better community then other boards I frequent.

Actually not to ask more, but now my iphone is stuck in the apple logo after installing a couple things like 5 rows, and adding new repos so I rebooted and now it is stuck in the apple logo

Oh great i'm hoping I dont have a problem. Now i'm trying to restore my iphone and it seems stuck at 99% on my mac and about 75% on my iphone.

    Please help

What the ****, now I had to delete and install Itunes in order for the restore to occur, now all my music and apps on my itunes is gone. any help would be great.?

Theres nothing to worry about, that's what happens with a tethered jb. Just have to rerun redsn0w like before.

    Default learning the JB

go to this site on youtube. YouTube - DinoZambas2's Channel
you will see a few videos on JB. i have my iphone 4 JB on untethered right now. there are a few bugs but i can turn my phone off and restart without my computer. i hope this will help you. when you get the apple during start up and it gets stuck, it's because you didn't use the redsnow to restart the iphone. just like you jailbroke the iphone, you use the same ipsw but click on "just reboot using tether". if it does get stuck, just put the iphone back in dfu mode or do a hard shut down by pressing the home and power button until it turns off. if it restarts again, just do the hard shutdown and before it restarts, press the power button for 3 seconds (the apple will appear) and while holding down the power button, press the home button for an additonal 10 seconds(the apple should disappear after about 7 seconds) then release the power button and hold for an additonal 10 seconds. your phone is in DFU mode and now you can use the redsnow to restart the iphone. good luck and if you continue to have issues, write back. don't delete anything from your computer. there is always an answer here.
