Jailbreaking 4.2.1 tethered

I have read a guide for jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 tethered, i followed this guide which suggested using redsn0w. Everthing had seemed to be going fine until while uploading new bootrom(not sure if thats what it was) and displaying the downloading on the phone it seemed to have froze i left it for about 20 minutes and it didnt move, so i stopped it and have restored my phone to the original apple settings.

i was wondering if that was normal? or if something had gone wrong?
i was using the latest version of redsn0w, i do have the newer iphone 3gs with the new bootrom or whatever.

can somebody direct me to another reliable jailbreak technique or lead me to another guide for redsn0w? or even just tell me where i might have went wrong?

Did you run redsnow as admin and in windows xp sp2 compatibility mode?

No i just ran it as normal is it advised to run it sp2 and admin?

I'm trying to jailbreak with redsn0w but the firmware I have downloaded is no where to be found on my computer?what am I doing wrong?

You need to download the firmware yourself. You can find firmware downloads at top of the page.

make sure you have the newest redsn0w....made a HUGE difference for me
