Wi-Fi not working after jailbreak with iPad Baseband
So long story, had a friend with an iPhone 3g (v4.1) from att, was going to sell it to a tmo user, asked if I could jailbreak.
Sure, nbd.
Tried a standard jailbreak using pwnage tool, leaving the same version. I tried to get ultrasn0w with cydia after and could not connect to wi-fi, no wi-fi networks show up at all. We both have micro-sims so we needed wi-fi.
I tried restoring the iphone, no changes. I tried upgrading the version, no changes. Then I finally thought that my only other option was trying out the new method with the iPad baseband. Did that and no change, so I tried restoring again, ended up with a phone stuck in recovery mode loop and wouldn't come out with any of the fix apps. Finally found a solution in these forums and got the phone turning on again, used a friends at&t sim to activate, unlocked with ultrasn0w, still no wi-fi, so the guy wouldn't buy it from her anymore.
At least the phone is turning on now, but she's going to kill me if I can't get this wi-fi working, she'll totally blame it on me. I've tried everything, different versions, different basebands, different jailbreak software, factory settings and firmware restore with itunes, resetting network settings on the iphone, messing with our router, trying other routers all over town, trying to manually connect. And now I'm stuck with the ipad baseband as far as i know you cant go back from that, I'm not sure what to do. I doubt its a hardware prob because she said it was working right before I did work on it.
Anybody have any suggestions?

When you're restoring, you are setting the phone up as new, right?

Meaning after the install finishes, and it asks to set up as new phone or use backup of a previous phone, yes I choose new phone every time.

Does the wifi work when you don't jailbreak it?

According to her, it worked before I did anything, but I've tried restoring it using itunes and putting it back to normal, and still no changes.

Well I'm asking if when you restore, does the wifi work when you don't jailbreak it?
Because if it doesn't, it seems likely that it has become a hardware problem if it won't even work on a clean stock firmware.

That would be a good way to isolate the issue

well yeah, originally I had tried restoring using itunes and regular firmware and no changes, but it may have been because of the baseband changes? now that I have installed ipad baseband i think i can't go back to stock can i? also bluetooth is working, i read somewhere that if the wifi is down hardware wise the bt might be too.
maybe if i can get it back to stock apple will fix it?

The baseband could very well be a factor. But you can't ever get that baseband back down again. Unless the phone has bootloader 5.8, then you could, but very few iPhone 3G has it. You could check the bootloader with f0recast. If it has 5.8 you're good to go.
