Can't upgrade Iphone 3.1 to 3.1.2
I just bought an iphone 3gs with firmware 3.1 and need to jailbreak and unlock for t-mobile. Every time I try to restore I get error 3194. I have searched online and found a tutorial that had me modify a hosts file and try and restore that way, but it didn't work. Could some one help me out with this dilemma? Thank you.

What blobs do you have saved have you ran tiny umbrella on it?

What is a blob? Also, I haven't ran tiny umbrella on it because i just bought it and in the tutorial it states that "For this to work you NEED to have your SHSH for the firmware you are trying to restore to. If you do not then tiny umbrella will not help you restore to that firmware." Since i just bought the phone i do not have any info on it.
Ok i figured out that it's an SHSH blob and i will need to save it in case this happens. when apple stops signing older firmwares.Last edited by Shant21; 01-21-2011 at 01:44 AM.

You will not be able to restore to any firmware other than 4.2.1. Use redsnow to put you into dfu mode and restore in iTunes to cfw of 4.2.1.
Run redsnow again to install cydia and unlocked with ultrasnow

My base band is 5.13, and cydia tells me that i wont be able to unlock it unless i have base band 6.15. I know there is a way to update the base band with the ipad fw, but ithere are too many things that can go wrong.
I will try umbrella now.
I have another issue. I dont have an att sim, am I still able to jailbreak and unlock without a sim? I do have a t-mobile sim though.
I did updated to 4.2.1 last night so thinking it over i dont think the umbrella method will work anymore.Last edited by Shant21; 01-21-2011 at 04:55 PM.

your baseband is unlockabke , do not update to iPad bb. what you need is a custom fw of 4.2.1 to preserve your 05.13.xx bb
I am on my phone so whatever I say will be brief.
Have u done what those guys ask u to do, click save shsh from TU?Last edited by iYeow; 01-21-2011 at 04:58 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Reading the umbrella tutorial it states that i have to go to cydia and click make my life easier first. Now in order to do that i will have to jailbreak it first. The phone is telling me to insert a sim.
ok i am trying to jailbreak it right now in order to back it up with cydia first and then use umbrella. For some reason redsnow is not jailbreaking it. Is it because i need an att sim in the phone? Keeps going back to insert sim and redsnow is saying exploiting with limerain and it gets stuck.Last edited by Shant21; 01-21-2011 at 05:20 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

if you are at 3.1, redsnow 0.9.4 will jailbreak for you
not limerain, every tool is meant for a specific fw versionLast edited by iYeow; 01-21-2011 at 05:28 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I am at 4.2.1 and redsnow should jailbreak that also. I updated it last night after getting pissed off. I am trying to jailbreak it right now and ill get back to you.
redsnow for some reason is not jailbreaking the phone. The phone reboots after putting it in dfu mode and redsnow just stays on exploiting with lime rain. I am following iclarifieds tutoral on how to jailbreak the 3gs with fw 4.2.1. I am not able to restore either cause there is no sim installed.
Am i not able to jailbreak cause I dont have a sim installed? All i have here is a tmobile sim.Last edited by Shant21; 01-21-2011 at 05:34 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

redsnow 0.9.6 rc8 in xp2 compatibility mode

I just tried it with xp service pack 2 and sp 3 for some reason its not working. I know redsnow works cause i jailbroke an ipod touch last night and also my sisters 3gs last week. The phone is the problem. Instead of writing the custom firmware after i get it in dfu mode all the phone does is restart.
I also have it running in admin mode.
Ok it is still not working. I did notice that when it tries to load the cfw that it says loading iphone 4 firmware. The firmware is iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore so i know it is for the iphone 3gs cause i downloaded it from the 3gs tutorial on iclarified.Last edited by Shant21; 01-21-2011 at 06:02 PM. iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore : this is for iphone 4 my friend.
If you have a 3gs, you should be using 3gs firmware which starts like this : iphone2,1_4.2.1.xxxxx

Which part are you doing, restoring or tether boot or trying to get into dfu mode.
