So one of my friends thought it would be fun to update my unlocked iphone while I was in class. My iphone is a 3gs that I believe was running 4.0.1 when I jailbroke and unlocked it this summer using the pwnage tool. However, my friend downloaded the new 4.2 and installed it on the iphone. The iphone is a At&T iphone that I have unlocked to use in Rogers wireless network in Canada.
The phone is stuck in itunes saying that the sim card installed (Rogers) is not a valid sim card.
Is there anyway I can revert my iphone and save it from being a useless piece of hardware?
Yes. That's the only way. Pretty much download the 4.2.1 firmware. Then download the iPad firmware run redsn0w and click install Cydia/iPad baseband and do all of the steps. You may be tethered though. Also do you have your shsh's.
You should beat your friends up. That's really mean. Having a software unlock really messed you up with the update. Just be aware you might lose GPS function with the updated baseband to 6.15.00. But you will be able to unlock again.
Edit: you might not want to use the download for redsn0w from that link, it isn't the most recent. You should use redsn0w 0.9.6b6 or higher

so the installation worked. however, i tried to install some cydia updates that once installed made me reboot. in order to do a tethered reboot the phone has to be off. however, my iphone keeps turning back on everytime i try to turn it off. i hold the power and center button to turn it off, then within a second or two the apple logo pops up. how can i get this to stop happening so i can actually reboot the phone?
