i've just bought my iphone yesterday, please can some one tell me how to to make my iphone usefull (small computer), i'm trying to searching at forum but i'm confused so many word i didnt know. DFU, jailbrake...

well there is SOOOOOOOOOOO much about the iphone that i cant possibly tell u in one post. but the basics are, it as of right now can be unlocked, no matter what firmware and bootloader u have, even the hasnt been releeased 2.0 hahahah. and basically it takes some work to get it working with a different carrier. and dfu mode is the only mode that can downgrade firmware hehe

your gonna have to spend some time reading through posts here on ModMyI and also Hackint0sh.org is a good source. All the info you need is there. Don't be afraid to use the search feature! Also, Google is good too for finding iphone info.

to start you off heres a few definitions:

jailbreak - alter the phone so you can write to the filesystem and install apps and other stuff. If you have an AT&T account this is all you really need to do.

unlock - unlock the iphone for use with any GSM cell phone carrier. Be careful with this one and research it thoroughly before you do it. The are a few different options with different pros/cons

DFU - is mode you can put your phone it with the appropriate button combinations. It allows you to restore your phone or downgrade your firmware if there's ever a serious problem with your iphone

also, I wouldn't go installing any apps or tweaks on my iphone unless I knew exactly what it did. Also a lot of apps are quite buggy and you may be better off avoiding them. Make sure to check what other people's experiences were before you install anything.

also, a lot of app's features will not work for you and will require tweaking. Just search for the problem your having and probably someone has a fix for it.
