If it is a brand new iPhone 4, it probably doesn't have any SHSHs saved and cannot be downgraded at this time.

If it is bought from a previous owner who might have saved the SHSHs, it would help to check for them to see if they are available.

Otherwise, no downgrade possible without any SHSHs saved.

What do you mean by SHSH's and yes it's new and it was on a tethered jailbreak and I restored it yesterday so I could try to downgrade it

If it's new you don't have SHSHs for 4.1 since it came with 4.2.1. You can't downgrade whether you're on a clean firmware or jailbroken.

It's a good idea for you to save your SHSHs now so that you can have them for future use so you won't be suck in a position like you are now. If you're still jailbroken, go to Cydia and select "make my life easier". If you're not jailbroken, download TinyUmbrella from thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com and click "Save SHSH" to save 4.2.1+ to Cydia's server.

When I jailbroke this I clicked make my life easier when I was in Cydia and so do you know if there will be a way to put SHSHs on you iPhone from the computer like with Winscp or iFunBox and do you know when/ever there will be a release on a untethered jailbreak for IOS4.2.1

SHSHs are stored in Cydia's server. Not sure why you would need them in your computer. If you absolutely need them there, sorry I don't know how but it isn't done via SSH.

You can, however, pull them into TinyUmbrella. Just click "Save SHSH" in TinyUmbrella and it'll be done.

Nobody knows when the untethered will be released.

Not sure what you mean. They're already in Cydia once you save them.

No, SHSHs are unique to each device.
