restore 4.0.1 on iphone 4. No SHSH saved

Hi guys,
new user here,
Got an iphone4 with FW 4.0.1 n BB 1.59.00.
It had been jailbroken.
Now i want to restore the firmware in Itunes due to 3g issues.
I understand that i need to have the SHSH stored in my PC but i dont.
the SHSH using tinyumbrella gives me 4.2.1.
cydia says "this device has a pending TSS request"

Now, my question is, how do i do it?
Read about using a Custom firmware.
From where can i get it? Can anybody point me in right direction?
Also will it allow me being able to get apn editing working?

If after clicking save shsh in TU, you only have 4.2.1, that is the firmware you are going to restore.

Google search, there is an unofficial pwnage tools to create a custom firmware of 4.2.1 for iphone 4 but it involves alot of work. I have not done it but have seen it and it looks very complicated.

Yes, you can restore to stock 4.1 using tiny umbrella but again you must have 4.1 shsh blob stored in tiny umbrella.

You can google search for a already made custom firmware but I am not sure if it will work. You can give it a shot and you have nothing to lose after you are going to restore to stock 4.2.1 if it doesn't work.

Make sure you use redsn0w to put you into dfu mode first.

I think there's a bundle or two you have to download as well to make a custom firmware for iphone 4 on 4.2.1 to work. Either that or you have to edit the custom firmware yourself too. Forgot :/ It's a pain in the butt.

Any ideas about how to get the edit APN setting. I have tried the unlockit way n it doesnt work.
Iphone configuration utility nothing....

Usually jailbreaking will open that up to you. What went wrong with unlockit.co.nz?

When trying to save custom profile, it just goes into general settings but there is no profile tab there.

You didn't get a chance to select "install" for the profile? It doesn't pull up the APN settings you selected and have a little button that say "install"?

yes, it does. But when i click install, the general setting pops up. BUt there is no profile tab in it. I even had the custom profile emailed to myself n tried from that. Same result. Tried it from IPhone Configuration Utility... same result. the general settings would come up but there is no profile tab.

So then you don't have a cellular data network tab to go into in your Settings?

No, I have the data network tab but no edit apn tab. Just enable 3g, mobile data on/off.

Try downloading a carrier bundle for your service provider in Cydia if you're jailbroken.

ok...found no carrier bundles for my service provider in cydia...
Found an "apn editing" tweak.
but it crashes on trying to install...shows a error exit status 255???

I'm not so sure then. Unlockit.co.nz usually works. And you can't restore without updating to 4.2.1. Are you sure there are no carrier bundles for your service provider? What carrier is it?

my carrier is mtnl, delhi, india. I found very few carrier bundles.

Hm. I have never heard of those. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can help you, unfortunately I'm stumped.

Could it be a problem with Cydia? The front page always loads without the pics. Theres always question marks where the pics would be.
