I have an iPhone 3GS running on a 3.0 which i have unlocked myself almost a year ago. And would like to update/jailbreak/unlock to one the newest firmware 4.0+/ or even 3.1. I do not posses the original simcard from the provider (so i dont know if that will cause any issues).
Can someone please advice me on what I should do? What are some of the options available right now for the 3GS?
You can go directly to 4.2.1, this is what you do :
Update itunes to the latest.
Download redsn0w 0.9.6RC8 and the stock 4.2.1 firmware.
Run redsn0w , browse to stock 4.2.1.
Check only DFU box.
Once DFU is done.
Run itunes > shift + Restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 ( included in your PM box )
Once jailbroken, you are at Emergency Screen.
Now Run redsn0w again but this time check only install Cydia.
Once finished, install Ultrasn0w to unlock.
You are now jailbroken and unlocked at 4.2.1
Regarding the 16gb white iphone ( another iphone), it might be a new bootrom. If this is the case, then you will need to tether boot it.
