My spiral down to iPhone DOOOOOM
Hey all, been doing a lot of reading the past few days to try to fix this, posting here is my second to last ditch effort. I hope someone can please help.
The story of my spiral to doom
1. So I recieved an iPhone 3gs and I have TMobile. I turned it on and it wouldnt book and just came up with the itunes and usb thing. So I hooked it up to my PC and (mistake #1) it restored to 4.2.1. (Later I learned shift restore, i could have prevented this
)
2. So now i'm on 4.2.1 I figured let's make the best of it. So I upgraded my baseband to 06.15.00 (Mistake #2). Then proceeded to jailbrake with RedSn0w.
3. After jailbroken I installed ultrasn0w and unlocked. I was actually able to make a phone call which made me happy.
4. The next day I proceeded to get EDGE working. I dont know what happened but I started getting searching for signal now and could not get a TMobile signal anymore. No matter what I tried I could not get a signal.
5. The next day I tried again and found the battery was completely dead. On boot up I was back to the USB and itunes logo thing and it wouldnt boot.
--- Now to my demise ---
6. So I tried restoring again. iTunes wouldnt let me error 1015. Tried TinyUmbrella and still no luck.
7. So I tried running through the baseband and jailbreaking procedures again - no luck
8. After many attemps with many different versions of IPSW's and RedSn0w I decided to see what I could do in DFU mode. (Mistake #3 - your out!)
9. I downloaded a custom ipsw that would supposedely help with the restore but still no dice.
10. When I tried to reboot I am not stuck at a black screen. I know its on because the computer recognizes me turning it on and off. I think it's stuck in DFU mode.
11. I tried holding the power and home button down for about 5 minutes and nothing. I tried the different combinations of pushing and releasing no dice. I tried installing BB and IPSW no dice. I tried recboot to kick it, nope...
--- Please Help ---
The iPhone is now a paperweight. I'm trying to let the battery die but its taking forever. Before I pop it open and pull the battery I was hoping someone had any ideas of what I could try?
~last kick in the nuts...during my reading, yea I should have done this reading before, not after, well, I learned I could have and should have created SHSH blobs. Well my nuts are now swollen, I'm talking like a 2 year old girl, and I have no SHSH blobs...

Try this video.... I thought I had bricked my 3g but i was able to revive it with this....
This guy has ALOT of helpful vids on Youtube!!
YouTube - Restore & Update iPhone 3Gs/3G To 4.2.1 On 6.15.00 Baseband
P.S. Read the info under the video too for links to the stuff you'll need...ALSO notice it's a little different for the 3gs as opposed to the 3g!
Give me a thanks if this helps!! I'm Curious...

Thanks, looks promising. I'll try it out tonight and let you know what happens. My first hurdle is to get out of DFU mode, then by the looks of the video I go right back in, maybe i'll try it from the state its in now assuming its in DFU mode. If that doesnt work I'm back to yanking the battery.

just follow the video....if it's already in DFU redsn0w will recognize this and carry on....you might have to do it a few times but it should work
Give a thanks if I was helpful!!

WOOT! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Video directions worked like a champ. Only had to make one modification from them, everything worked fine with 0.9.6b6 except the tethered boot kept locking but 0.9.6b5 worked just fine. Then after I upgraded Cydia, installed ultrasn0w and rebooted again, I was back to the USB itunes thingy. I tried 0.9.6b6 and it worked.
First thing I did this time was save my SHSH blobs
I am however still stuck at searching for signal (T-Mobile). I turned off 3G but no luck.
Searching the forums for info now...I'll keep you posted.
On a side note, tomorrow at work I commondeered (sp?) a MAC and I'm going to try the untethered boot version. I'll post on that as well.

I wasnt able to install the baseband again. i tried b5, b6, and rc8, none worked. Let's see what the new untethered version can do for me tomorrow.

I did run redsn0w in xp sp2 compatibility mode. They work most of the time but every now and then I still get lockups.
I am no MAC expert but the redsn0w 0.9.7b6 did not work. First issue I noticed was there was no untethered option like the video so I am skeptical that it is a true release. Second when I try to JB it does not recognize the 3 steps of puching the home andpower buttons, it immediately gives an error.
Back to the PC, I tried on another machine, I restored to the custom ipsw again and went through the process. I still cannot install the ipad baseband, (it's already at 6.15 wonder if it is possible to reinstall the same version ontop).
Airplane mode or 3g mode do not work for getting a TMobile signal using ultrasn0w 1.2.
Sooo, next steps for me. Hrm. I'm not sure yet, I may play around with the BB some more if you guys tell me its possible. Maybe I should try a different Custom IPSW?
I have a semi valid AT&T SIM handy. I think when I originally JB and UL the phone I had that in there then when I replaced the SIM I got a signal. May play around with that some too.
Will keep you posted, any ideas are welcome.
Thanks again...

I will say my laptop works a lot better than my pc with redsn0w.
Anyway, so I tried a few more things, I've re basebanded and did the full process about 5 more times with no luck. I also tried a different SIM card.
I have two thoughts now:
1. I have the 3gs with 4.2.1 and 06.15.00. It is also the newer model 3gs. I found this thread http://*************/topic/97573-ple...-421-firmware/ and I'm wondering part of it applies to me when they say no custom firmware available for the newer firmware. I'm also wondering how I know if my custom restore is the correct one. I believe I need an activated version because I use TMobile. iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a4.2.1Custom_Restore.ipsw is the one I'm using.
2. I was thinking of trying IOS 4.1 to see if it would help any.

I'm not sure but I think the only thing I did different this time was to turn off 3G BEFORE installing ultrasn0w and I didnt upgrade any cydia packages when it asked.Last edited by kilimanj99; 01-21-2011 at 02:48 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
