Default 3GS old BR jailbreak for 4.2.1?

I have a 3GS with the old bootrom with iOS 4.1, jailbroken with Limera1n. The installation is acting up a bit (wi-fi connects sporadically / often claims there are no networks, springboard crashes too often) so I'm thinking it's time for a clean install.

Ideally I'd update to iOS 4.2.1 while at it, so I'm wondering if there's an untethered jailbreak available? I know there will be nothing equivalent to Limera1n until iOS 4.3, but are there any methods available for me now? The device is factory unlocked so I can safely update the baseband.

    Many thanks

Yes, you can jailbreak your 3gs at 4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.6RC8 to get untethered jailbreak for your oldbootrom.

Thanks. Reading the instructions this method seems like a lot of work getting, and it doesn't appear too reliable either. I'll stick with 4.1 until the 4.3 jailbreak is out, in its untethered glory and all.

it's not that much work, but you are right. Probably not worth it just to go to 4.2.1. 4.1 is just as good.

I had the same problem. Cydia now says iOS 4.1, 4.21+, but my SHSH save as 4.1... 4.2.1 is from me having to update iTunes after having to do a system restore on my pos Windows laptop. I have a "restore guide" that I wrote for myself if you want me to email it to you. I use the custom ipsw file and my SHSH to successfully restore my iPhone whenever I need to. It works every time.

Update: I just learned that my iPhone is running only on 4.1 and not 4.2.1. Muchas gracias al gente arriba de mis palabras. ¿Como se dice "post" en Español?

Exactly. I'll stay with 4.1 for now.

Feel free to judge me, but what does pm stand for? I don't even know how to add people as friends using the app... I'm about to edit the guide and clean it up a little. Right now it's a bunch of gibberish that I didn't think I'd ever be sharing. Standby.
