Default New to the Iphone world and the jail breaking world....

Alright, I have been trying to look around and just find a blog or something similar to just give me clear cut instructions on how to successfully jail break my 3GS on 4.2.1 iOS. I got this phone used just as of today, and of course its my first iPhone. Every time I feel like I am getting close the clear cut instructions on how to do it (all I know as of right now is I have to do a "tethered jail break" which doesn't bother me in the least) all the download links don't work at all. So I keep hitting dead ends. I was referred here to get help. I do apologize in advance because I am SURE you all get threads like these all the time and get annoied with them. I see it all the time on another forum I use regularly (not for iPhones though) so I do feel the pain. I am just back at the "noob status" in this area of your expertise lol.

So I suppose these things might help a little bit to get me clear cut instructions (with working download links for everything) for my specific situation because I know every situation is a little different. Like I said before I could care less if I am forced to do a tethered jail break. So as for what I have....

    iPhone 3GS running 4.2.1 iOS.
    Windows 7 on my laptop.

So any help would be much appreciated. God I feel dumb. Lol.

Alright, figured some more things out. Still have a couple questions to make sure I am doing this right.

I found a link for Redsn0w 0.9.6b4.zip I downloaded it and extracted to my computer. It has a couple text files (license.txt, credits.txt, and readme.txt lol) as well as the Redsn0w.exe file. I opened that and it asked me to select my "corresponding IPSW" for the iOS I am running on my phone. So my question is do I download and select the "iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8c148a_Restore.ipsw" that is available in the downloads section of this site? Or should I download/select a different one?

Ok, Another update! I think I did it lol. Well I lucked out and the 3GS I bought has the "Old boot" on it which according to Redsn0w is the good one. So that made me happy. I went ahead and selected the IPSW file I was talking about before, then it asked me about if I had the "new boot" or "old boot" 3GS. I went and looked at my serial number and found out I have the old boot version. So I selected the corresponding answer. Then I did the "Hold power button then home button" thing as it told me to, first go at it didn't work but that was because Windows didn't have the drivers installed for it. But once that finished it continued it's thing. Now I was expecting having to open up Redsn0w.exe again to choose the "Boot tethered" option because I thought you could only JB 4.2.1 tethered. But to my amazement it just rebooted on its own without me doing anything. I then opened Cydia and selected the "complete update". I figured complete would be better than essential. Then it told me to reboot the device, so I hit the "reboot device" button..... It's actually doing it now lol..... and it just rebooted without me having to do any of that Command Prompt stuff or reopen Redsn0w...... So that means I officially have an untethered JB of 4.2.1?????
