How to check ios version while stuck in dfu mode?
Well my 3gs is stuck in dfu mode and it won't get out. When i try updating, it gives me an error 28 so im waiting for its battery to get drained.
Meanwhile, is there any way to check which ios version is currently installed on my phone so that i know which ios to restore it on when the battery is drained?
I ask this because i dont want to restore it on 4.2.1 if i have a lower ios version than 4.1. I guess im asking that even if i have a higher version of ios, if i try restoring it on 4.0, will it cause any problem? I dont have any SHSH saved.
I hope you understand. Will appreciate if someone can answer this noob question.

If you dont have any SHSH saved it doesnt matter what firmware you are on. You will be forced to 4.2.1.

cydia
Will this happen even if i use a ios4.0 restore using cydia? I mean i edited my host files to direct to a different server address so will i still be forced to update to ios4.2.1 ??

Oh thanks. Well then i have another question. I had used an official 4.0 firmware to update my 3gs which was on 3.1.2. I did that about a week back but what i want to know is how was it possible that my phone was updated to 4.0 without prior shsh?
I had got several errors so i had used TSS server and ireb to get rid of those errors and installed 4.0?

While you are in dfu mode, retreive your ECID and input into Tiny umbrella and click save shsh , here is the guide.
If you see any shsh blobs , that is what you can restore by starting tss server or just close tu which sets your hosts file pointing towards cydia.
