I tried both of these options, but I have two different results. If it is on the apple logo and rebooting by itself, i turn the phone off, and then hit next and follow the steps. It always puts me in recovery mode.
once im in recovery mode, I turn the phone off and hit next and after all of the steps it says no phone was detected. I have both of these numerous times. Do I just need to keep trying, varying my timing on each step?

when u are in rec mode, don't turn off. start pressing the power button when u click next to start the 3 secs count. consider rec mode as oFF on ur iphone

Well, I am having no luck whatsoever. I have put this phone into DFU before, so I don't think that I am just doing it wrong. There is some other issue going on here. So I deided I am just going to restore this phone to factory (hopefully that isnt out of the question yet) and sell it. I have a line on a j/b and unlocked 3gs and I think I can sell this one, buy another and break even. Thanks for all of your help.
