3gs 4.2.1 jailbreak?

i know i have to use redsnow and its a teathered jb if ive got the new mc model? is that correct? just wanted to ask if that redsnow is still in its beta stages? im doing it for a friend and want to be sure that itll be risk free if i follow the guides 100%, dont want to brick my friends iphone

If you have new bootrom then yes it is a tethered jailbreak. Unleass you have a mac and 4.2b3 SHSH.

I have used it on mine and everything is working.

If your friend needs an unlock , don't go for 4.2.1, you might end up with a locked and tethered jailbreak. If you have the new bootrom, you might be seeing alot frozen apple logo screen.
If he is now on 3.xx fw, then go for 4.1 to get an untethered jailbreak.

hes on newest firmware and does not need unlock, so im guessing redsn0w is the way forward, errrm which version shouls i go for? latest stable release? so if because hes on the newest firmware and newest bootrom theres a chance he"ll be seeing alot of the frozen apple screen?

Latest tethered redsnow is 0.9.6rc8
latest untethered is redsnow 0.9.7b6 (mac only though and need 4.2b3 SHSH)
