I am going to laugh if all this build up is going to lead to one giant fail and verizon doesn't get it.

In Asia, CDMA has becomes obselete due to pirating of ESN numbers to make long distance calls on your number.

Yeah, most people in the States aren't smart enough to do that. :P

Case in point, I was in the T-Mobile store the other day getting a SIM for my iPad (jerkwads tried getting me on a $45/month WebConnect plan, wasn't having any of that, but I digress)...

I was speaking with the manager (who was a level-2 tech support guy), and asked him: "Hey, is my IMSI on this line 310260 (last nine digits of the ICCID before checksum digit)?" "Holy [crap], yeah, it is. How on earth did you know that?"

Mobile network security in the USA is a freaking joke...

On topic: I'm calling world-mode next-generation iPad (no iPhone). And it will not have an all-zero locking code (e.g., it won't be easy to break free from Verizon's clutches unlike most CDMA phones). Besides the fact that Verizon, Sprint, and Cricket are very strict about only allowing their ESNs on their networks, any "unlocks" for the thing would be rather silly. Unless that would open up GSM/UMTS/HSPA use on an otherwise CDMA-only unit, but I'm rambling...

I'm pissed. Although Verizon did announce an IPhone, but no leaks on what firmware it would run. Bummer

It will run 4.2.5, which is unreleased up to this point.

Considering how last year Apple released the A4 chip (Apple-4th Gen I assume?), and used it in all 4 iOS devices they released, I fully expect to see an A5 hardware upgrade this year, followed by an A6 next year, etc.

I remember the description of at least one of the recent jailbreak exploits as "this will work on any A4 based device".

I completely agree with you that the likely-hood of future Apple SoC's being vulnerable to existing exploits borders non-existent.

I'm not quite as cynical as you though, regarding future exploits . Following the computer security field for the last 15 years has taught me that if anything, we're more vulnerable to targeted attacks now than we ever have been in the past (despite designing systems in a fundamentally more secure manner). If anything, I'm cynical about the security systems, not the exploit community.

I'm sorry ,but are you saying it's likely possible to jailbreak since it's on running the same A4 Chipset? U seem experienced. Thanks

What purpose would it serve to unlock a CDMA phone?

For the GSM iPhone, you can go and travel around the world and change sim card to change carrier. A CDMA phone does not use the same technology.

You can jailbreak a CDMA iPhone to buy apps from Cydia.

So even if you can unlock a Verizon iPhone, what purpose would it serve?

    Just curious.

Just read there's no way to unlock it. Reason being it already is. The road block stops with Sprint. I hear they're infamous for not letting any one use their service unless the phone belongs to Sprint
