iPhone 4 4.0.2 > 4.0.1 stuck in DFU mode
OH MY GOD! Please someone be my savior. I couldnt even post on this freakin forum with my account for some freaking reason! I literally screamed out loud because I had to create this account just to post!!!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHY! String of bad luck with this crap.
ANYHOW!!!
Tried downgrading the iPhone 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 with a restore via itunes...well I didn't know about the whole hosts file editing thing so I tried to do that but it still shoots out the Error 3194 in iTunes.
Soooo I'm stuck with the iPhone 4 not powering on....and TinyUmbrella does nothing...I downloaded that just to see if it would do anything but it doesnt. The Start TSS Server option just runs and runs and doesn't do anything.
PLEASE what do I need to do??? I'm really on the verge of just letting iTunes restore it to the latest version but I know then I won't be able to do anything
because I need this phone jailbroken and then unlocked. Hence why im downgrading so I can just use jailbreakme.com to unlock
Hell I'll even send someone $5 via paypal. First one to lead me on the right path to getting it working gets the $5 if they choose to except or I'll donate to whereverLast edited by j3rm; 01-10-2011 at 06:22 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

You may want to do that to see what SHSH you have. That will tell you what firmware you can restore to.
Use this to find your ecid: iClarified - iPhone - How to Find Your iPhone ECID [Windows]
Then manually input it in to tiny umbrella, then press save SHSH.Last edited by Simon; 01-10-2011 at 06:40 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

There is a button at the bottom right that says manual ecid. Use that to add your device after you obtain the ecid.

How can this be?? Before I started working on this phone it was on 4.0.2 ... I don't see how or why TU would be saying it's 4.2.1Last edited by j3rm; 01-10-2011 at 07:20 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

That means you can only restore to 4.2.1. It doesnt matter what firrmware was on the device, saving SHSH has to do with what firmware Apple is currently signing, which is only 4.2.1 now.

But isn't that why they have the edit hosts texhnique to bypass this?

the edit hosts thing is to point your hosts to cydia to use your saved SHSH. But you dont have saved SHSH there so it wont help.

Ok so you're telling me my only option right now is to just use iTunes and let it restore normally? Since I can't use the phone atm and it can't be downgraded...I don't think I can even get 4.0.2 back on cuz apple won't validate restore.ispw for it

If you need to keep your ability to unlock you should look into making or obtaining a custom 4.2.1 to preserve your baseband.

That is for the GM 4.2.1. You should find a guide for the released 4.2.1. I think fsm.com had a good one.
