The link you referred to me is much more difficult and tedious than I would like. Why is it that the link I posted not a good route?
Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool Bundle [Guide] | Gadgets DNA
What is the difference between the GM 4.2.1 and the regular 4.2.1 you posted? The link I posted apparently works simplified without having to boot into the jailbroken kernel like the link you posted d:/

You can try that one if you want but I cant say whether it will work or not since you are not on the GM version. You are still going to need to boot tethered even if that other guide works. No getting around that right now.

Ya, I was tethered for a while, it isnt that bad once you get it setup the way you want. I went weeks without having to reboot.
It depends on your baseband for the unlock.

I had mentioned this earlier in another thread but your safest bet is to create a custom 4.2.1 firmware with no baseband update with pwnage tool.
There is another method but it is highly risky and you would have to be at a lower firmware like 4.1 or lower.
use at your own risk!!

As long as you never restored to a regular 4.1 or 4.2.1 at any point then you should still have 1.59 and be fine to unlock.

I'm confused now.
It was on 4.0.2 and I tried to downgrade to 4.0.1 but it won't work because apple is only verifying 4.2.1 firmware and I do not have SHSH files.
So am I supposed to get PwnageTool and create a custom 4.2.1 firmware(which I don't know anything about) or am I supposed to just follow the link you referred to me earlier on FSW?
P.S.
I'm heading to my friends house now to use his MAC so that I can use PwnageTool

Use the guide with pwnage tool. That will preserve your baseband so that you can still unlock on 4.2.1.

Hey I managed to get the iPhone out of restore mode or DFU whichever it was sooooo does this mean I can maybe save the SHSH files? I have the phone on and is working fine with iOS 4.0.2 with 1.59 baseband

You can try, you would have had to save them when Apple was still signing them though.

Damn nah the person I got this phone doesn't even have anything on here.

So im back to the only option of using PwnageTool and creating a custom 4.2.1 firmware?
I think I should just find someone on craigslist who would be willing to trade LOLLast edited by j3rm; 01-11-2011 at 04:52 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

If you have it booted up now why not just leave it at 4.0.2?
