iphone 3 firmware

Hi
please can someone help. i have an iphone3 with firware 4.2.1 (8C148a) i am tryint jailbreak and unlock but when i go to restore with new firmware which i have downloaded and put into a pwange folder i get a message come up from itunes telling me the firware is not compatable has anyone any suggestions please.

If you are restoring to custom firmware, run Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 , browse to stock 4.2.1, check only the box dfu mode. Once dfu is done, run itunes > shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1
