How can I restore stuck 3GS to 3.1.2 without an shsh?

So I Just picked up a 3GS on 3.1.2 firmware with 05.11.07 firmware. I tried using blackrain to jailbreak it and it froze up. Now the phone is stick with the connect and iTunes logo. I tried kicking it out of the recovery mode with tiny umbrella and recboot exit but had no luck. I never backed up the shsh with tinyumbrella. So does this mean I have to upgrade to 4.1.2 or is there a way to restore to an older firmware. I don't want to have to upgrade to 4.1.2 because I want an untethered jailbreak and unlock.

This has happened before and I haven't found many posts about this issue (I guess most people think before they just start trying to jailbreak).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

No you will need the 3.1.2 shssh

If this is your first time jailbreaking, you will not have any shsh stored with cydia. What you have is a tethered jailbreak. If you were to restore , you will be forced to go to 4.2.1 and also loses your unlock.
Run Blackra1n again to boot up your recovery mode.
