Jailbroken 3GS restore help

Hey guys, I have a 3GS that's jailbroken on 4.0 with the baseband of 05.13.04. I only have shsh 4.2.1 saved. I want to restore my phone because it's been acting a bit weird and would like a fresh start again. Is it possible to restore with 4.0? I need to keep my baseband but I don't really care what version iOS I'm on. What are my options? Can somebody point me in the right direction please?

You would only be able to restore to 4.2.1 if that is all you have SHSH for. To do so and preserve your baseband you would need a custom 4.2.1 with no baseband update in it made with pwnage tool. It may be tethered though depending on if you have old or new bootrom.

I've been trying to restore to 4.2.1 with CFW and I created a CFW with Pwnage Tool. However, when I try to install it through iTunes I get a 1600 error right when it prepares to restore after verifying with Apple. What am I doing wrong? I have the old bootroom so I would like to preserve it and I followed this post:

Did you use pwnage tool to enter pwned dfu?

No, I didn't. Am I supposed to? I just entered DFU mode on my own without the help of Pwnage Tool

Yes you have to use the pwnage tool dfu first
