I've got an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 3g running FW 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 Modem Firmware.
I want to upgrade to FW 4.1, but have a question or two about the process. I've read the main sticky with the instructions. I'm looking at the ones about preserving the Baseband by using pwnage tool for Mac, that's the one I need right?
my main question is concerning SHSHs. How do these work? I have them saved in Cydia(at the top of the main Cydia home screen i have green numbers), and I downloaded TinyUmbrella and saved them as well. Is that enough? is that all i need to do with them?
So like, when the firmware finishes downloading all I need to do is just run pwnagetool like normal, do all the custom stuff, dfu, itunes, blah blah? The SHSHs are the only things I'm concerned about.
When you are restoring to custom firmware of 4.1 thru itunes, it will verify if you have shsh blob. You can start tss server before you do your restore.
First: A custom firmware is always required to preserve the unlock.
Second: For a 3G, all iOS version 4 and above, require SHSH blobs. If they have already been saved, Tiny Umbrella provides them when iTunes requests authorization. If not previously saved, you're out of luck -- except for current 4.2.1
Third: 3G phones do NOT need any SHSH blobs for 3.x.
