Iphone 3g 5.14.02 version 4.1

Alright so here is the deal. I am wondering what you guys think is the best approach for me. Itunes has detected that my phone is in recovery mode. It wants me to upgrade and restore. Its an Iphone 3g 5.14.02 version 4.1. Its not unlocked but I would like to jailbreak and unlock it. Which way do you think is the best to get both jailbroken and unlocked? Thanks for any feed back you have.

OR, jailbreak it with redsn0w 0.9.6b6 , choose only install Cydia and ipad bb update at 4.1
