iPhone 4 4.0.2 jailbreak problems HELP!

Hey all

I am trying to jailbreak and unlock a phone for a mate. He bought it second hand and it has 4.0.2 on it still.

I jailbroke it and unlocked it fine using linera1n. It was working until I went into setting and reset all the settings (it appeared to still have the previous owners settings on it)

Anyway it was in a constant loop and I couldn't get it to turn on nor could I jailbreak it anymore. I tried using pwnage to update it to 4.1 and keep the baseband for the unlock but it doesn't work.

I have also tired using greenpis0n that doesn't work it just gives me a white screen...

Any ideas?

At the moment the phone is just stuck in DFU mode.. I can't kick it out to try and start again.

I don't want to update it because I need the unlock..

The only ones that I have saved are the 4.2.1 so no real use for me.

I just tried to install the standard 4.0.2 and I get a 1600 error in itunes. This is with the tiny unbrella TSS server running.

Tiny umbrella says that the phone is still running 4.0.2 however I can't for the life of me get it to boot up.

Without SHSH you wont be able to restore to anything but 4.2.1. If you need to preserve your baseband so that you can unlock your only choice right now is a unofficial pwnage tool that can make a custom 4.2.1 for you. It will be tethered though.

Ahh crap!!

Well I just used "redsnow" pwnagetool to create a 4.1 custom firmware and it is restoring to the phone though itunes.. The phone has now come to live with a progress bar.. I don't know what is going to happen when it finishes though.. Will report back soon.

I don't get it the process works fine it gets all the way to the end and says "Your phone has been restored and will appear in itunes when restarted"

Then it boots back into recovery mode..

Any idea why?

redsnow doesnt create custom firmware, you may have messed something up by using redsnow wrong.

You sure you arent on the emergency call screen after restoring?

Nope screen is black and the phone pops up it itunes as in recovery..

It shouldnt have let you restore to 4.1 at all without SHSH. Odd.

So i guess my only option now is to update to 4.2.1 and wait for a JB and unlock.

You can make a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool and restore to that if you want.

Will that keep my baseband as it is?

pwnage tool 4.1.3. You will need to put the bundle into pwnage tool manually first, see update 3 here: Dev-Team Blog

From what I have read there it appears to be for a 3GS..

I have an iPhone 4 would this still work?

The other thing that I was thinking is that seeing as the phone appears to be loading the custom firmware on and then booting back into recovery. Is there some way that I can kick it out?

I have tried a few although I doesn't work. I don't know if there is a sure way out there that will work 100% that I haven't come across??

whoops. sorry, my bad. For iPhone 4 you would have to google for a custom bundle for 4.2.1.

Well I now have the phone booted up so that there is something on the screen other than it just being black. However it is asking me to activate it through itunes.. I can't do this for obvious reasons..

I used pwnagetool in expert and made sure that activate was selected. Now what should I do?

If you dont have a official sim you can try running redsnow to hactivate it. Best to use a official sim though.
