Limera1n for 4.1...

Hi guys, I have searched the plethora of comments but couldn't find an answer.

I tried using this guide How to Jailbreak Firmware 4.1 iPhone 3GS/4, iPad, iPod Touch 3G/4G with limera1n to get my already Jailbroken 4.0 iphone4 to 4.1 jailbroken.

However it didn't work.

This will sound very amateurish, but do i need to install 4.1 to my phone first?! These steps weren't detailed so i just went ahead and tried running Limera1n, presuming that it installed 4.1 for me.

Another question, will all my previously installed apps from Cydia etc, still be present when my phone is running 4.1, or do i need to back everything up?

Thanks for your help, ive been out of the scene since jailbraking my 4.0!

yeah you've gotta be on 4.1 to jailbreak 4.1. dw, weve all gotta start somewhere, be noobs at some point. and unless you've shsh blobs saved with cydia you can't upgrade to 4.1 because apple is no longer signing that firmware

ok thanks. so im best off waiting for the 4.2.1 jailbreak?

first of all check your shsh. the easiest way to do this is open your cydia page, and look up in the top. if you've got any shsh it will say it in green. if it says shsh: ios 4.1 then you are able to upgrade to 4.1, if there's no shsh, you are best to wait for an untethered 4.2.1 jb as tethered sucks!

Above the welcome to Cydia by Jay Freeman message it says:

i just read this and for some reason i did not think i had shsh saved in cydia.however above the j.freeman line there is 3.1.3 4.0 4.0.1 4.0.2 and 4.1.does this mean they are saved in cydia? and if so can someone put a link here to how to access them.thanks guys

okay that means you can upgrade to 4.1 but before you do download the latest tiny umbrella from http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

this saves your shsh.

if you are an unlocker, don't upgrade to 4.1 just yet as it is not possible to unlock the 4.1 bb. if not go for it

yep no problem happy to help. just save your shsh first and your good to go. good luck. I forgot to mention, I dunno if you know this but you gotta hold shift+restore and then select your 4.1 software and then let iTunes do it stuff! good luck

yeah i knew about that from past jailbreaks.

Soo. In order that i get this in some kind of instruction order:

1. Download tiny umbrella.
2. Let that do its thing.
3. Download a 4.1 firmware
4. In itunes, do the shift and restore so that i can select 4.1 through browsing mydocuments (for example)
5. Once installed, i can try running Limera1n?

Sound right? Is there another step with the SHSH in between steps 4 and 5?

yeah that sounds right. if you get an error during the update, on tinyumbrella click start tss server and then that might work. but I've never had to use that and I've restored with my shsh a fair bit. any problems let me know

cheers, i'll be trying it after work tonight, fingers crossed! is there a proper guide out there anywhere in case my made up one doesnt work!? i've tried searching but cant find one where all circumstances reflect my own...

i cant think of one off the top of my head..maybe the dev team blog? but i don't really know. just give this a go, it's worked perfect for me heaps, so should for you
