Please Help: Possible to jailbreak iPhone 4.2.1 without DFU mode?

Ok, beforehand, I have searched and searched and haven't been able to come up with any clear answers to my particular problem.

My Sleep/Wake button doesn't function, at all, in fact there's no button in there. My phone crashed earlier today and I was forced to restore it via iTunes to 4.2.1, I previously had 4.0 on it which I didn't mind keeping because I had the Activator App from Cydia which allowed me to Lock/Sleep/Reboot the phone, etc.

I am currently stuck with a non-jailbroken iOS4.2.1 iPhone on which I can't lock or power off the phone. Is there anyway I can jailbreak the phone or even just install cydia somehow? I don't need an unlock just a simple jailbreak, which is deemed impossible due to the state of my phone ... Any help WILL be greatly apprecied!! Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post.

No way on 4.2.1. You would need to restore to 4.0.1 for a jailbreak that doesnt need that button.

I remember saving my SHSH files on cydia when I had 4.0. How would I go about downgrading the software?

EDIT: Nevermind, that looks like I would need to put the phone in DFU mode also. HELP! lol please.

I am having the same issue. I have a 3gs I got off a buddy, i dropped it the first day I had it and cracked the screen/case so the power/sleep button does no work. The phone was never jailbroken and is running 4.2.1 but I cannot get it to go into DFU mode. I read the link above but to be honest I don't understand any of it. I dont know what an SHSH file is and how can I get into cydia without the phone being jailbroken. Sorry if im asking stupid questions but im really lost here. First Iphone, it currently locked to Telus and I want to jailbreak and unlock for Rogers but its stuck at the insert sim card screen. I was hoping to jailbreak to run S.A.M so I can activate the phone. Ive been searching the net for a couple of days and this seems to be the only solution ive come across. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I know I would have to upgrade my BB to the Ipad 06.15
