tethered vs untethered
I am just about to to the tethered JB because iPhone 4 SUCKS MONKEY BALLS without a jailbreak compared to my 3GS that I just gave to my wife. SBSettings, springjumps, infiniboard etc, how friggin sweet are they!!!
Questions are:
1: Every time I respring (theming etc.) will I have to be hooked up to my computer? or is it just for a complete power off? is respringing the same as reboot?
2: For all intents and purposes, is the ONLY difference between tethered and un is the position of the phone for power up?
3: If I'm uut and abuut and my phone dies, when I get back in the truck and stick it on charge and power up, will anything bad happen? Or will it just go to what it was like before JB?
I have tried to get the answers to these questions through google and this forum, but I usually end up with more questions than answers.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was on tethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 4.2.1 and turned off my iPhone to apply the screen protector, when I turned it back on, it got stuck at the apple logo; where the only thing I had installed from Cydia was AppSync.
Stupidly, I tried to do a restore which gave me an iTunes error 1013, when I could have rebooted it tethered, but this no longer worked since I believe was due to my restore attempt, though I'm not 100% sure about this. I managed to get a full restore after googling around for solutions.
I most likely am re-jailbreaking it again today but won't be letting my iPhone run out of battery or turn off to avoid complications.

And when it was on, did you respring at all?

I actually never did so, but prior to jailbreaking, I did research about it and everyone says that you will not need to reboot with redsn0w from respringing.

Maybe I am wrong, but you shouldn't have to be sure to be hooked up to a computer when you respring. At least that is what my experiences are with a tethered iPad jb.

Ok, well, so far I have no problems at all. Getting all the tweaks and things from cydia that need a reboot is a bit of a pain, but shouldn't have to do that much in the future as i have everything i think i want.
I have all the themes I had on my 3GS plus some retina specific ones. Everything so far is working perfectly and now I'm actually happy I got the iPhone 4!
Oh, one thing. MobileTerminal and Rock don't open. Rock is the easiest way to change your ssh root password, so I guess I'll just keep my eye on the ssh toggle in sbsettings to try and protect the phone.
Thanks again for all the help and info.

Just to clarify to anyone else reading this, you do not have to tether for a respring, only reboot. The phone may or may not boot without tether depending on what you have installed, but if it does boot, cydia and other jb apps will not load if you didn't tether.
FYI, Rock is no more (merged with cydia), and mobileterminal wasn't updated. SSH in with putty on your PC or download something like iSSH from the app store.
